St. Petersburg!

Hello blog world... this is Kels. I have been slacking on my blogging duties for a while now, but luckily Jord keeps it up for us! :-) Last weekend we went to St. Petersburg and LOVED it! I may or may not have had the song from Anastasia stuck in my head the entire time we were there. Anyways...The things we got to see were incredible! The first church below is called The Spilt Blood Cathedral, and it was beautiful!

This Cathedral was incredible and HUGE! It is called The Cathedral of Our Lady Kazan. So cool.

We found Baskin Robbins in St. Petes!! We took advantage of the other American Restaurants that we found... like Subway, McDonalds, and Pizza Hut! We ate our weight in American food and couldn't have been happier. :-)
We stayed in a kindergarten for the night we were there, and WOW. It was only 100 roubles a night (about $3), and quite the adventure. Between the pee-stained, kiddie-sized floor mats, the creepy stuffed toys, and the drunken school keeper that resembled Mr. Rogers, we had quite the sleepless night.
And here we have Jord, changing sneakily in a padded barrel. What a crazy. :-)
The Hermitage!! This place was INCREDIBLE. It is comparable to the Louvre in France, with its amazing architecture and huge amounts of famous artwork. We saw paintings by Da Vinci, Picasso, and a number of other famous artist's work here. So amazing!

We waited in line for about an hour in the FREEZING cold until we finally got to go in. It was SO worth it!!

There were amazing scultpures like this one, done by Michelangelo!
This painting is called "Mother and Child" by Da Vinci. It was so cool to actually be in the same place as these amazing pieces of art! We loved it.

Here is my knight in shining armor, oh and the guy on the horse. :-)
The size of some of the paintings were AMAZING!! Just walls covered with them.
This is one of Picasso's more famous paintings. Very cool.
We were freezing!! :-)
St. Isaacs Cathedral was so beautiful, and SO huge! We loved this one.

Here is a short video of Jord and I in front of the Hermitage! Go to the next post to see the Peterhoff Palace and other fun things. :-) Bye!

  1. You guys are so cute. It looks like you are on an extra long honeymoon. Have fun and enjoy it. I swear that first ballroom is from Anastasia, didn't that all take place in St. Petersburg? I know they made a cartoon but there is some truth to it. How neat. Remember to journal- I thought I would never forget about stuff in Europe and 6 years later I don't even know all the cities I went to.
