Fall Break Road Trip!

At the beginning of October, our kids had a week off of school for Fall Break! Normally we stick around town and keep it pretty low key, but this year we decided to hit the road for an adventure. There's something about a baby coming that just makes you want to kick it in gear and cherish the time you have with your other kiddos--before your life drastically changes again! Haha.

Don't get me wrong, we cannot WAIT for baby sister to get here, but we are definitely loving making fun memories with our boys in the meantime.

For Fall Break we decided to head to Washington D.C., since neither me or the kids had ever been before. The older boys have been learning a lot about American History in school, so we thought hey! What a perfect opportunity to bring what they're learning to life!

We got up bright and early (hello 3:30 a.m. Yikes!), and we got on the road. The kids did amazing in the car, and kept themselves entertained with some new coloring books and movies. They really are such good little travelers!
^Pit stop wiggles in jammies^
When we were about an hour out of D.C., we stopped at one of my favorite places in the world: CAFE RIO. They only have Cafe Rio's out west or near the D.C. area, so you'd better believe we looked up their locations ahead of time and scouted out the first one we could to get some sweet pork burritos.

And when we pulled up and saw the sign, I literally cried. Hashtag pregnancy, hashtag cravings, hashtag I'm crazy. Also we all just literally piled into the place in our road trip jammies, because we're classy like that.
^This burrito made me cry actual tears. SO GOOD.^
^Me: "Holland, smile!" Holland: does this face.^
We got to D.C. in the late afternoon and checked into our hotel. Then we put some actual clothes on (nothing like finally getting out of your pj's at like 4 p.m. haha), and headed over to Gravelly Point Park to let the kids run wild and free!
^Love this little Beck!^
^So dang happy to be out of the car!^
^three boys & the potomac^
Gravelly Point was recommended to us by a friend who used to live in D.C., and holy cow--it was AWESOME. It was right next to the airport, and the airplanes would literally come into land right above our heads. It was the coolest!

The park was also right next to the Potomac River, and had a great view of the Washington Monument downtown. It was so perfect. (We actually loved it so much that we made sure to come back with a pizza picnic on our last night in D.C.!)
^Too distracted by his prickly pine cone to care about the plane haha^
^Love him so much.^
^"I find a rock, momma!"^
As we hung out and watched the planes come in, the boys ran around and did count-downs for the plane landings, climbed all the trees in sight, and basically just loved every second of it. To this day if you ask them what their favorite parts of Washington D.C. were, I guarantee they will all mention climbing trees at the "airplane park."

It was just the best--especially after a long day in the car.
^The Potomac! And some boys in trees.^
^Literally those dimples though!!^
^nervous/ proud to be in a tree like his brothers (with some help from dad)^
After the park, we drove around downtown for a minute to see some of the famous D.C. landmarks in the evening, and then we promptly headed to Chick-fil-a. (Because obviously.) Then we tucked in for an early bedtime to gear up for our big day of exploring in the morning!

It was a perfect, low-key first night in D.C. We were already obsessed, and we'd only just begun.
